03/04/19 VL Jason Gardner, Q&A, Tutorial
A very different exhibition. James seemed very open and honest. He presented other’s work, much like In Helen Legg’s presentation. I didn’t like it here either but it did work because showing the works is how he illustrates how the spaces have been used.
He did want more interaction from the audience but that doesn’t work too well in the lecture theatre setting. People are reluctant to yell out in that room.
I didn’t use the app I usually use to sketch notes much.
Notes
The Q&A went really well, better than the lecture as people were more vocal. He was really open about money, which is something I always think of but find it difficult to mention.
I did ask for a tutorial but it was very short and I felt he didn't want to be there. I think he understood what I was working on, and he did help me think about how I could present my work. Not the most successful tutorial but maybe that's down to him being in a rush and also he was so personable in the Q&A, I thought it might be the same kind of thing.
Because he is conscious of the spaces work occupies he asked me about things like how I might want to modify the space I have chosen in the upcoming Masonic Hall. Mike Pratt has these same concerns and it's such an interesting perspective and so helpful for me personally, as I am so new to finishing and showing work.
