Bedwyr's Project
We were asked to take photos of objects that could appear in an online collection and upload them to Instagram. We made up a name from an obsolete mobile phone brand. The group was to meet on Mondays, the biggest the group has ever been is 3 which had a big effect on the momentum of the project. Some have added images to the online collection from home but not enough of them and not to the specifications we stated in meetings. We spoke about how we might edit the images, the order of them is not fixed. Bedwyr was keen that we incorporate the project into our own practice. I decided to make my own extra collection; Yezzzbilly. I wanted to write about each object, I like to write and I like short stories. I am not a brilliant writer but I enjoy it. We don't know who has uploaded particular images. I decided to write about things I hear or stories around people I've come across that have made me laugh. I have asked Joe to contribute and write one of my stories, I've tried different formats for the others using word randomisers etc. different rules that I used last term.
Last term I decided to use photos with a square orientation. I like how the square doesn't give a clear horizon and top/ bottom. A square seems the perfect 'cropped' image, which is the reason Hockney is so keen. I am obsessed with squares, I think they aid my aims in terms of portraying a calmness in confusion. This lead me to research the semiotics of shapes and incorporate them into my work with wood. It's interesting why Instagram chose the square.
I need to edit these and write more but a few examples:
